Why Should I Research Old Newspapers For Family History?

There's nothing worse than sorting through old newspapers in your home - smudgy ink, the dirty feel of old paper, and thoughts of embedded bugs. But luckily, that's not exactly how one researches newspapers today.

Through the miracle of online search engines, one can research articles from decades and centuries ago.

For most of us, having a name and dates of birth and death are not enough. Though you can find out occupations, addresses, and languages spoken on the census records, newspapers provide you insight into their everyday lives, clubs they joined, awards they won, traveling information, and a host of historical events not covered in the census. You may even discover photos you never knew existed!

Newspaper articles can write facts incorrectly, but if you are in question, you can research further for accuracy.
